Mangere Pools

The whole camp was really excited about going to the Mangere Pools on our final day of camp. So was I, until I found out that the chlorine in the water made my skin come up with all spots that really hurt. I had to get out after a while but the time I had in the pools was a blast!

“Come on the slide Ana!” called one of my friends, as excited kids started to line up as soon as it opened. I was a little scared especially as I got closer to the top, my stomach was doing flips. I nearly felt like backing out. A foam mat was shoved in my hands so I had to get on to the slide but it was so much fun!

When I first got onto the slide, it was really slippery at the entrance but once on, it was alright. I pushed off nervously. At first it was slow but as the bottom of the slide was closer, it started to speed up, and I plummeted legs first into the little pool at the end of the slide, SPLASH!

As I got out of the water to get ready for another jump, my face started burning and my back was itchy, I knew what that meant, I had spots from the chlorine! I had to get out of the pool and wait until it was lunchtime but even though I wasn’t in the pool, I was still itching from the spots on my back.

After a small shower, I got back into my clothes. Once dressed, my spots started to fade but I still wished that my allergies didn’t even exist so that I could go back into the water and enjoy the day with my friends.

Even though I wasn’t in the water slashing and going down the slide , I still had a good day watching everyone have fun! Finally, Miss Garden started to get everyone out of the pool to get ready to go onto the bus again. It was cool watching everyone slowing come back into their lines from the changing rooms.

On the bus, everyone was really tired and some people even fell asleep. The trip seemed shorter than the way there but most people still enjoyed it. What a great way to end camp!

Yr5-6 Camp

This week is our Yr 5-6 Camp. We are camping on our own school grounds but some of our activities are out of school. We are in different teams so we are with the same people the whole camp long. There is the The Force, The Band, The Opstars, True Crew, Cooperaters and Synergy, I am True Crew  and my leaders are Emmy and Taniela.

We started off camp with our first activity, Catching and Cooking. The girls are inside cooking afternoon tea and the boys are out trying to catch some eels and fish. Us girls were baking cookies for the rest of the camp. It was really fun working with each other and the best part was eating it at afternoon tea time.

Our second activity were Top town. Top Town was really fun but because it was my first time, it was a little bit hard. True Crew was winning by miles but in one of the obstacles, we forgot to bring the rope so we had to go all the way back and get them and by the time we got to the end, the other team had already won.

Kayaking was my favourite part of the day. It was my first time kayaking, but I really enjoyed it and I really want to do it again. The only problem was that after I got out, I started to get spots from the sea water and it really hurt. Even though it hurt afterwards, I really enjoyed going Kayaking and it was my favourite part of the day.

Testing

The past two weeks ago, I have been doing tests. I did 3 tests, reading, writing and maths. At first, I was really nervous and I didn’t want to do them at all but once I had done the first one, I was okay with it. We did all our tests online on a site called E-Asttle expect for the writing test, we did that on a google doc.

Our first test we did was the reading test. I did it on one of the computers in the music room and I really enjoyed it. The only thing that I didn’t like about that test was that it was really cold in the room. I thought that the reading test was pretty easy.

Our writing test was up next. I did that in my class on my netbook. The whole class had to write a narrative about things disappearing. We could choose what disappeared, how it came back and most of the story, it just had to be about something disappearing. I wrote about all my schoolwork disappearing one day. I liked the writing test, but the reading test was still my favourite.

The third and final one we did was the maths test. I did that test on one of the computers in the ICT room. The maths test wasn’t as good as the others and I found it really hard. I don’t think that I understood the questions properly and I guessed the answers to about a quarter of them. I was so happy when it was over and I was hoping that I did better that I thought.

Week 5 Maths

I have been learning about Equal Edition. Equal Edition is a strategy that you can use when using subtraction and one of the numbers has to be close to a hundred.

All you have to do is add the number that equals to a hundred to both numbers. Once you have done that, the problem should be really easy to solve. Now my whole Maths Group is really good at solving those sort of maths problems.
